Harry S. Keeler, 99, of Bellefonte, passed away on Friday, January 2, 2015, at Mount Nittany Medical Center. A son of the late Harry V. and Vernetta B. (Stein) Keeler, he was born on June 6, 1915, in Bellefonte. He was married to Anne P. Kelleher Keeler in 1947; she preceded him in death in 1979.

He was a graduate of Bellefonte Area High School. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, life member of the Undine Fire Company, member of Benevolent Protective Order of the Elks, American Legion Post #33, and the VFW Post #1600.

Harry served in the U.S. Army, from Jun 9, 1941 to Jun13, 1945, during World War II. He was a sergeant in the 81st Tank Battalion, participating in major battles in Rhineland, Normandy and Northern France. For his service he received the American Defense Service Medal; Bronze Star Medal; European – African – Middle Eastern Service Medal; Good Conduct Medal and Purple Heart. After World War II, Harry worked for West Penn Power Company, retiring after 41 years of service.
He is survived by one son, John E. Keeler and his wife Teresa, one daughter, Kathy Roadarmel and her husband Edward, five grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers; Robert Keeler, Kenneth Keeler and one sister, Helen Shawley.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.

A public visitation will be held Monday, January 5, 2015 from 6-8 PM, along with a Wake Service at 6:00 PM, at Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc., 206 N. Spring St., Bellefonte, PA. Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, January 6, 2015, at 10 AM, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 134 E. Bishop St., Bellefonte, PA 16823, with Father George Jakopac officiating. Burial will follow, with military honors, in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Bellefonte.
