Helen L. Rhoads, 91, of State College, passed away Saturday, February 6, 2016, at the Mount Nittany Medical Center, in College Township. Born on June 18, 1924, in Bellefonte, she was the daughter of the late Charles W. and Minnie Burris Poorman. On July 27, 1940, in Cumberland, MD, she married George Foster Rhoads, who preceded her in death 1983.
She attended the Bellefonte Area School District.
Helen was a homemaker at her time of passing. She had formerly retired from the Penn State University and had also worked for the Penn Bell Hotel.
She is survived by her five sons; James Rhoads of Temple, TX, Robert Rhoads of Tyrone, Dave Rhoads of State College, Phil Rhoads of Pleasant Gap, and Barry Rhoads of Overland Park, KS, four daughters; Barb Naugle of Sarver, Deb Wegener of Milesburg, Peggy Kline of San Antonio, TX, and Becky Ishler of Pleasant Gap, twenty-five grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren.
Along with her husband and parents Helen is preceded in death by two daughters; Carol Jean Moore and Judy Rhoads, one son; Clair Rhoads, one brother and three sisters.
There will be a public visitation held Wednesday, February 10, 2016, from 6pm until 8pm, at the Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc., 206 North Spring Street, Bellefonte. PA.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 11, 2016, at 11am, at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at Centre County Memorial Park in College Township.
