J. Mavys Friedman, 92, formerly of State College, died on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 in Boulder, CO.
Born on April 20, 1920 in Richmond, VA, she is a daughter of the late Abe and Rae (Berman) Sacks.
On July 12, 1942 in Detroit, MI, she was married to Martin M. Friedman, who preceded her in death on February 26, 2010.
Mrs. Friedman was a graduate of the former Carnegie Tech, now Carnegie Mellon University.
Beginning in 1952, she and her husband owned and operated the Tot’n’ Teen Childrens Clothing Store in State College. Mr. and Mrs. Friedman retired from the store in 1975. After her retirement, she created and knit children’s sweaters which were sold around the State College area.
She was awarded the Volunteer of the Year Award from the Mount Nittany Medical Center.
Mrs. Friedman is survived by three daughters, Pamela Friedman and her husband Richard Genova of New York City, NY, Laurie Friedman and her partner CJ McCarthy of Boulder, CO, and Debbie Friedman and her husband Stephen Cohen of Bethesda, MD; one brother, Jerald L. Sacks; and four grandchildren, Jill and Jake Kaplan, and Adam and Joshua Cohen.
Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Sunday, April 7, 2013 at Centre County Memorial Park, 1032 Benner Pike, State College, with Rabbi David E. Ostrich officiating.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Services, 1034 Benner Pike, State College.
