Janet F. Hill, 70, of Pleasant Gap, passed away on Monday, November 14, 2011 at The Fairways at Brookline. Born on February 2, 1941 in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Raymond J. and May Walton Nichols. On August 24, 1963, in Philadelphia, she married Carl E. Hill who survives at home.
Janet is a 1958 graduate of Frankford High School. She earned her BA in Religion from Lycoming College and a Masters in Music Education from Pennsylvania State University. She taught music to elementary and middle school students at the Mifflin County School District, Philipsburg-Osceola School District, and Athens Area School District, and was a substitute teacher for Bedford Area School District for many years. Janet retired in 2003 after 27yrs of teaching.
She was a member of the Pleasant Gap United Methodist Church, Rotary Club of Pleasant Gap, where she was a past president, State College Choral Society, Nittany Valley Symphony Guild, Bellefonte Community Band, and Nittany Highland Pipe Band, where she served as the Business Manager. She was a host parent to over 20 Rotary Exchange Students, including Dr. Jorge Gonzalez who stayed with Janet and Carl for over two years and throughout college.
Janet was a avid Penn State fan. She also enjoyed knitting, traveling, and music.
Janet is survived by her husband and two sons, Michael C. Hill and his wife, Kathleen of Alum Bank, PA and Wesley J. Hill of San Diego, CA. Also surviving are her three grandchildren, KiaMarie, Nicoletta, and Shane.
Memorial services will be held on Sunday, November 20, 2011 at 3pm at the Mount Nittany United Methodist Church, 1500 East Branch Rd, State College, PA 16801 with Pastor Howard Woodruff and Pastor Thomas Osif officiating. Family and friends will be received at the Church Family Life Center following the service. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
