Janet Lucille Schaeffer Crater was born in Spring Mills on January 15, 1923 to Thomas and Anna Shunk Schaeffer. She graduated from Gregg Township High School and married Nevin "Honey" Crater on January 29, 1943, eventually they went to farming in Georges Valley. During WW II, Janet worked at Titan Metals. She was known to family and friends as "Aunt Janet".

She is survived by two sisters, Betty A. Burd (Nevin) of Centre Hall and Nancy J. Woock of Niagara Falls, NY., and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are two "adopted sons" – who visited every summer at their farm – Larry E. Strickler (Dorothy) of Centre Hall and William "Skip" Woock of Niagara Falls, NY., and their children Kara Bressler of Spring Mills, Cheryl Grenoble of Smullton and Rachael and Elizabeth Woock of Niagara Falls, NY. In addition to her parents and husband, Janet was preceded in death by four brothers, Melvin Schaeffer, Bruce Schaeffer, Walter Schaeffer and Jeremiah Schaeffer; and three sisters, Kathryn Aimone, Irene Myers and Algae Bailey.

Janet enjoyed baking bread (hers was the best!) and sticky rolls. She liked to do embroidery work and then had the patches made into quilts. She spent winters putting many puzzles together and listening to Daniel O'Donnel's singing. Janet also enjoyed spending time with her Amish friends and most of all her family. She will be missed by all who knew her.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2013 from 10:00 – 11:00 am at the Steven R. Neff Funeral Home in Millheim. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 with Rev. Russell Sauerwein officiating. Janet will be laid to rest in Holy Cross Cemetery in Spring Mills.
