Obituary of Jean Maree Womer Sacksteder

Jean Maree Womer Sacksteder, wife of the late John Sacksteder and daughter of the late Daniel and Maree Womer, was born Oct. 1, 1920, in Williamsport, and died Nov. 28, 2009, in State College.

She attended Pennsylvania State University and graduated with a BS in Chemistry in 1939. She spent a year in Hawaii before beginning a career as a research chemist at UniRoyal Chemical Company, Naugatuck, Conn., where she remained until her retirement in 1980. During her years in Conn., she was a member of the Naugatuck Congregation Church and an avid "bell ringer" in the bell choir. She later settled at the Foxdale Village retirement community in State College, where she met and married John. Jean enjoyed, and was a supporter of, classical music of all kinds. She generously supported many charities.

She is survived by her "adopted" family, Don Gerecke, Marion Gordon and their daughter, Rebecca, and by her step-children, Christopher Sacksteder, Andrew Sacksteder, Anthony Sacksteder and Stephanie Carney. Her loved ones are very grateful for the excellent care she received from the Foxdale staff.

A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. on December 3, 2009, in the Foxdale auditorium, 500 E. Marylyn Ave., State College. Arrangements by Wetzler Funeral Service Inc., in Bellefonte.
