Jerry W. Murray, 68, of Centre Hall, formerly of Mifflinburg, passed away on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. Born on February 1, 1949, in Toccoa, GA, he was the son of the late Allen and Ann L. Brackett Murray. In 1990, in Raleigh, NC, he married Shirley A. Stanberry, who passed away in November 2012.
Jerry was of the Methodist faith. He was a 1967 graduate of Toccoa High School.
He was enlisted in the United States Army from 1972 until 1975. He served during the Vietnam Conflict. He achieved the rank of E-4, Specialist. Jerry initially trained in the Air Defense Artillery, specifically as a Vulcan Crewman. A motorized Vulcan is an electronically controlled armored vehicle used to protect a military airbase.
He was the Business Manager of the Federal Prison in Lewisburg, retiring in 2005 after 23 years of service. He volunteered a lot at the prison for social events, before and after retirement.
Jerry enjoyed cooking, shopping on QVC, Nascar Racing, and traveling. He liked to go on wine and brewery tours. He volunteered for many years at Toys for Tots. His favorite thing to do was spend time with his grandson, Clay, the “Little Man”. He was a member of the Yost-Zimmerman VFW Post 1964 in Mifflinburg.
Jerry is survived by his daughter, Kathryn L. Murray and her fiancé, Trey Judy, of Pleasant Gap, and two brothers, Michael Murray and his wife, Bobbie, of Woodlands, TX and Tony Murray and his wife, Karen, of Gainesville, GA. Also surviving is his grandson, Clay B. Murray.
Along with his parents and wife, Jerry was preceded in death by on brother, Walter Murray.
Visitation will be on Saturday, July 1, 2017 from 10am until the time of the service at the Daughenbaugh Funeral Home in Centre Hall. Funeral service will be at 11am at the funeral home with Pastor Theresa Heiser officiating. Burial will be private.
