John “Fred” Geissinger, 82, of Julian, passed away on October 3, 2011. Born in Bellefonte on May 6, 1929, he was the son of the late Willis and Helen (Rote) Geissinger. On November 7, 1953, he married Alice L. Bruss, who survives at home.
John was a 1947 graduate of Bellefonte High School and attended the Pennsylvania State University. After serving in the U.S. Army with the Military Police, he served the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for 35 years; seven years with the PA State Police, followed by twenty-eight years as an investigator and prosecution agent for the Pennsylvania State Treasury Department, Department of Justice and Department of Welfare. On his own time, he provided counseling to troubled youth and was active with Pennsylvania Concerned about Alcohol Problems (PCAP). He had strong interests in photography and history. He attended the Berean Bible Fellowship Church in Fleming.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, Rhonda Geissinger of Julian and Kevin Geissinger and his wife, Sandy of Manheim; four grandchildren, Melanie Shaw of New Cumberland, Travas Geissinger of Manheim, Danielle Geissinger of Manheim and Brandon Shaw of Bellefonte; and three great grandchildren, Aidan and Kaylee of New Cumberland and Tyler of Bellefonte. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn (Geissinger) Pyle and a brother, Donald Geissinger.
Friends will be received at the Dean K. Wetzler Funeral Home, Milesburg on Wednesday, October 5, 2011 from 6 PM to 8 PM. Services will be held at the Dean K. Wetzler Funeral Home on Thursday, October 6, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Jack S. Palmer officiating. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Union Twp., Centre Co. Memorial contributions may be made to the Berean Bible Fellowship Church, P.O. Box 4 , Fleming, PA 16835.
