John R. Rutkowski, 89, of State College, died August 13, 2013, at his residence.
Born December 28, 1923, in Cleveland, OH, he was a son of the late Edward and Josefa (Sawulski) Rutkowski.
John was Navy Veteran serving as a member of the SeaBees during WWII. He was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Gray’s Woods, a former Union leader for MESA’s local chapter where he was active in supporting workers rights. He was also a life long avid Cleveland Indians fan.
John was the ultimate handyman and builder and a model of life and love.
He is survived by his two daughters, Joanne Rutkowski (Arthur S. Dervaes) of State College and Carol (Mark) Gall of Jim Thorpe; their mother, Margaret A. Rutkowski; two granddaughters, Megan Drewe Gall and Kelsey Anne Gall both of New York; and ten nieces and nephews and their families.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Al and Joe Rutkowski and Irene Polomsky.
A memorial mass at Good Shepherd Catholic Church will be announced.
