John Kurtis Wagner, 25, of Mingoville, passed away Saturday, August 27, 2016. Born on December 20, 1990, State College, he is the son of Eric and Sue (Sheckler) Wagner, who survive in Mingoville.
In addition to his parents, John is survived by two sisters: Amanda Wagner (fiancé Ketan Patel) of Cumberland, RI, Rebecca Wagner of Philadelphia, PA, and his paternal grandmother, Elizabeth A. Wagner. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Charles C. Wagner, his maternal grandfather, John W. Sheckler, Jr., and his maternal grandmother, Joan E. Sheckler.
John was a 2009 graduate of Bellefonte Area High School and a 2013 graduate of Penn State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Telecommunications. He worked as a film producer and director for WPSU Penn State. He was a full time producer for “Unrivaled: The Penn State Football Story” and was recently nominated for a Mid-Atlantic Emmy for his work on “Penn State Basketball: In The Paint.” John also worked on the Penn State women’s basketball show “Courtside with Coquese.”
John was a free spirit who loved everything about life. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, scuba diving, playing his guitar, watching movies, cheering on the Green Bay Packers, and spending time with family and friends. Anyone who had the pleasure of knowing John was left a better person through his knowledge, contagious smile, and gentle spirit. To have known him was to love him.
Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, August 31, 2016, from 5:00pm until 8:00pm followed by a Celebration of Life service, at Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc.,206 N. Spring Street, Bellefonte with Pastor Scott Brown officiating. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
