Joyce V. Lucas, 76, of State College, died Friday, October 1, 2010 at the Hearthside Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in State College.
She was born January 29, 1934 in Minneapolis, MN a daughter of the late Earnest and Katherine Vaughan.
She was married to her husband, Professor John A. Lucas of Penn State since 1955.
Joyce was a graduate of Boston University (1957) and worked at the Penn State University Pattee Library for 26 years until her retirement in 1996. She loved to travel to remote wilderness locations, as evidenced by her 25 international trips crossing 4 continents. She also loved to help others in need of assistance, as evidenced by her daily trips spanning over 40 years to visit friends from Bellefonte to State College and locations in between. Her never-ending and genuine love for others will be missed by many.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son Mark L. Lucas and his wife Pam of Columbia, Missouri, two grandchildren Matthew and Katherine and one brother, David E. Vaughan of Niceville, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory should be directed as her gift to The First Church of Christ Scientist, 617 E. Hamilton Ave., State College, Pa 16801
