Leonard W. Shilling, 88, of Bellefonte, died May 19, 2013 at Centre Crest.
Leonard was the son of the late Clair and Janet (Smith) Bowes. He was born in Clintondale, PA on August 2, 1924.
On October 13, 1946, in Williamsport, he married Harriet D. Berry, who survives at home.
Leonard retired from Conrail in 1982, as a railroad conductor and was a WWII navy veteran.
He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church where he was very active serving as trustee numerous times including once as the Trustee Chairman. He was also a member of the Smokehouse Hunting Club and the retiree bowling league at Benner Pike Lanes.
Leonard enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing-especially at Springs Country Club where he had a hole in one. One of his favorite pastimes was gardening. He enjoyed growing tomatoes (forty or more plants) and produce for his neighbors and friends.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Claudia (Wayne) Weber of Fishers, IN, a granddaughter, Michelle (Jeff) Confarolta of Attleboro, MA; a great grandson, Alex Confarolta, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Kenneth Shilling, James T. Bowes, Sr., Charles and William Bowes; and two sisters, Caroline Laubach and Helen Frank.
A visitation will be 10:30-11:00 AM, Thursday, May 23, 2013, at the Trinity United Methodist Church, 128 W. Howard Street, Bellefonte. A Memorial Service will follow at 11:00 AM with the Reverend Brian D. Vasey officiating. Inurnment will follow at Centre County Memorial Park with military honors,
