Lile Roy "Mike" Mayes, 82, of Julian, passed away Thursday, Aug. 27, 2009 at the Hearthside Nursing Home in State College.

Born on Dec. 1, 1926 in Runville, he was the son of the late Ed Mayes and Dora Lucas Mayes. In 1950, he married Joyce Rider who preceded him in death. On March 9, 1996 at Brookside Wesleyan Church he married Lena Tenalio Mayes who survives at home.

He attended the Yarnell school system. Lile spent most of his life farming. He worked as a mechanic for Davidson Trucking, drove for Stauffer Transportation, and was a Supervisor for Union Township. He was a faithful member of the Brookside Wesleyan Church. Lile was a member of the American Legion of Milesburg and played the guitar in the County Friends Band. Lile was devoted to his family and was passionate about his music and farming.

Along with his wife he is survived by a daughter, Myrna Yearick (John), of Julian; three step-daughters; Mary McGhee and the late Donald McGhee, of Petersburg, Erma Rupert (Cliff), of Bellefonte, Della Martin (George), of Florida; one step-son, Larry Kerstetter and his partner David, of Pittsburgh; one sister, Velma Mowery (William). Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Lisa Miller (Jim), Anissa Pytel (Dan), John Yearick, Jr., Trina Grant (Doug), April Saldana (Jay), Michael Yearick and his partner Brandy, Charity Chicko, by 15 step grandchildren: Kim Magda, Ray McGhee (Rhonda), Shane McGhee (Tracy), Bobbie Keith (Doug), Christina Bricen (Rick), Rickey Reed, Rob Fenstamaker, Crystal Angelo, Peggy Buckmaster, Adam Kerstetter; 14 great grandchildren; 23 step great grandchildren; and three great great step grandchildren. In addition to his first wife he was preceded in death by three brothers, Lester Mayes, Leonard Mayes, Kinsel Mayes; two sisters, Edna Carver and Vera Walker.

A graveside service, Meyers Cemetery, Tuesday, Sept. 1, 3:30 p.m.; celebration of life ceremony, Tuesday, Sept. 1, 6:30 p.m., Brookside Wesleyan Church, 403 Bush Hollow Road, Julian.
