Born Feb. 26, 1943 in Bellefonte, she was a daughter of the late Arthur L. and Sara G. Miller Burwell, of Pine Grove Mills. Her brother, James L. Burwell, of Pine Grove Mills and her granddaughter, Mara Grove, also preceded Peggy in death.

On April 20, 1962 she married Jack E. Witmer Jr., who survives at home. Also surviving are four daughters, Penny L. Grove, Nickel L. Bierly (Dave), Shelley L. Witmer, and Sally L. Beck (Steve), all of Bellefonte. Also surviving are eight grandchildren: Allen, Justin (Stephanie), Dana Grove, Danielle Grove Parsons (Tyler), Anna Grove, Travis Beck, Matthew and Megan Wildman; and a great-grandson, Logan Carl Parsons. Peggy attended Ferguson Township Elementary School and State College Area High School, graduating in 1961. She held several reunions at her home for her Ferguson Township class. Peggy was a lifetime member of the State College Alumni Association. Peggy worked at M.L. Clasters and Penn State. In 1974, she and her husband opened Nittany View Kennels on Purdue Mountain, which is still in operation. Many, many poker games were held at the Witmer home over the years. It was a hobby even the grandchildren enjoyed. Jack and Peggy spent their last six winters together at their little piece of heaven in Clewistown, Fla., with many new found friends.

The Children's Miracle Network was very near and dear to Peggy. Her granddaughter Anna Marie Grove was a miracle child for CMN. Over the years, they have worked to earn thousands of dollars for CMN. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Children's Miracle Network. P.O. Box 855, Hershey, PA 17033 or Home Nursing Agency Hospice, 1300 S. Allen St., State College, PA, 16801.
