Margaret Bastuscheck, 85, died Feb. 13, 2010, at the Atrium of the Village at Penn State.
She was born on Feb. 6, 1925, in Gettysburg, to Rasmus S. and Maude Sanford Saby. She graduated from Gettysburg High School in 1942 and from Penn State with a degree in Home Economics Education in September, 1945. On June 10, 1945, in Gettysburg, she marrried Clifford P. Bastuscheck, who survives at home.
Margaret taught home economics for one year in the Bellwood-Antis School District. In June, 1948, she and her husband moved to State College and have lived in the area since then. For a number of years Margaret taught sewing in the Adult Education program of the State College Area School District. In 1966 she started with the College of Human Development and remained until retirement in 1985.
Survivors in addition to her husband include three children, C. Marc and his wife, Connie, of New York City, Jeffery A. and his wife, Colleen, of Auburn, Ala., and Barbara Rhodes and her husband, Robert, of Lincoln University; a sister, Helen Hargleroad and her husband, John, of State College; a brother, John Saby and his wife, Mary, of Hendersonville, N.C.; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Margaret was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, of the State College Woman's Club, and of Altrusa. For many years she enjoyed the State College Bird Club, and most of the traveling she and her husband did after retirement included birding opportunities.
A memorial and celebration of life will be held at a later time. Arrangements are under the care of Koch Funeral Home, State College.
