Mary C. Homan Ruhl, 85, of State College, died Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010, at The Fairways at Brookline Village.
Born May 11, 1925, in Ferguson Township on her family farm, she was a daughter of the late Charles T. and Hannah Mae Hoy Homan. On Sept. 10, 1947, she married her husband, Donald G. Ruhl, who preceded her in death on Jan. 16, 1991. She graduated from State College High School in 1944, after which she went to work at the Centre Daily Times. Mary and her husband owned and operated the Ruhl Oil Company in State College. She and Don enjoyed hunting together and traveling extensively in their RV. They loved entertaining family and friends, often taking them along on trips. She was a member of Pine Hall Lutheran Church, where she spent many hours helping to make chocolate eggs for the Easter event.
She is survived by two sisters, Dorothy Klinger and Luella Hassinger and her husband, Harry, both of Boalsburg; and her brother, Alton Homan, of Towanda. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Maurice, Edgar, Wray, Harold, Lee, Albert and L. Claude.
Her visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2010, at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College. Her funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Susan Williamson officiating. Interment will be at Centre County Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pine Hall Lutheran Church, 1760 W. College Ave., State College, PA 16801.
