Mary M. Shaffer, 91, of Coburn, passed from this life on September 5, 2014 at Mount Nittany Medical Center. Born on September 25, 1922 in Linden Hall, Mary was a daughter of the late Charles and Clara (Schaeffer) Coble. On July 28, 1938, she married Nelson S. Shaffer who preceded her in death in 1985.
Mary was employed at the Laurelton Center, where she retired as a supervisor with 30 years of service. Mary attended Faith Alive Fellowship and St. James United Methodist Church. She loved to crochet, making many afghan’s for her beloved family. She was a collector of antiques and when able, she enjoyed attending flea markets, public auctions and yard sales to find her treasures. She also enjoyed flower gardening and listening to gospel music. Above all else, Mary loved to spend time with her family.
Mary is survived by four sons, Fred Shaffer of Llano, TX, Larry Shaffer (Lucy), Thomas Shaffer (Carol), and Ed Shaffer (Barbara) all of Coburn; fifteen grandchildren; thirty three great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren. Mary was the last of her family having been preceded by all her siblings and one son, Franklin Shaffer.
A visitation for family and friends will be held at the Steven R. Neff Funeral Home in Millheim, on Monday, Sept. 8th from 7-9 pm. The funeral will be held, at Faith Alive Fellowship, 4394 Penns Valley Road, Spring Mills, on Tuesday, Sept 9th at 11:00 am with Pastor Chris Korn and Pastor Andy Cooley officiating. Mary will be laid to rest at Heckman Cemetery in Spring Mills.
