Mary M. Runkle, 85, of Bellefonte, went home to be with her Lord, Friday, January 18, 2013, at her residence in Peru Village.

She was born October 10, 1927, in Peru, Pennsylvania, a daughter of the late Arthur Edgar and Mary Ellen Steininger May.

She married Kenneth I. Runkle on June 9, 1947, who survives her at home.

Mary was a 1945 graduate of Bellefonte High School. She retired as a Physician’s Assistant from Doctor George White’s Office in Bellefonte.

Mary was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Pleasant Gap. She loved gardening and was proud of her “green thumb.” She enjoyed crafts and word searches and found time to head the Snowball dance for the March of Dimes for a number of years. Additionally, she was a Gold Star Member of Centre Chapter of the Eastern Star, Centre Hall, the Logan Grange #109, and a member of the Pleasant Gap Women’s Club.

Surviving Mrs. Runkle, in addition to her husband, is a son, Edgar A. (Robin) Runkle of Bellefonte; one sister, June Tressler of Bellefonte; two grandchildren, Jonathan (Erikka) Runkle of Lemont, and Elizabeth Runkle of Bellefonte; three great grandchildren, Gabriel, Leighton and Jackson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by great granddaughter, Emerson Runkle; and four brothers, James, Robert, Earl and Charles May.

Friends will be received from 10:00 AM until time of the service at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at the St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 160 North Main Street, Pleasant Gap, with the Reverend Kevin Shock officiating. Burial will follow at the Centre County Memorial Park, 1032 Benner Pike, State College.
