Richard D. Ulrich, 91, of Bellefonte, passed away Sunday, March 14, 2010, at home. Born Sept. 26, 1918, in Coburn, he was a son of the late Harry Burrell Ulrich and Grace Catherine Musser Ulrich. On Jan. 13, 1946, he married Virginia B. Confer, who survives at home.

He was a 1938 graduate of Bellefonte High School, after having been part of the 1937 undefeated football team. He also had attended Penn State University. He was a tool and dye maker for Cerro Copper and Brass, retiring after 42 years of service. After retiring from Cerro he worked at Supelco and also Rightnour Machining.

He served in the US Army during World War II. For his service he received the Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Ribbon.

He was a lifetime member of St. John Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the Blue Lodge # 268, F. and A.M., 32nd degree Mason in the Altoona Consistory, Kiwanis Club of Bellefonte, Apprise, R.S.V.P., International Executive Service Corp., Civil War Round Table, a 30 year member of the Bellefonte Borough Planning Commission, past president of the Base Air Depot #2 Reunion Group. He taught Dale Carnegie public speaking courses. He was the past president of both the Bald Eagle Area School Board and Bellefonte Area School Board.

Along with his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Linda Grace Ulrich (Paul) Glantz, of Mechanicsburg, Karen U. (John E.) Baker, of Bellefonte; five grandchildren, Russell (Kimberly) Glantz, of Pottstown, Andrew (Mandi) Glantz, of Shiremanstown, Rachael Glantz, of Mechanicsburg, Brad (Jackie) Baker, of Fredericksburg, Va., John U. Baker, of State College; two step-great grandchildren, Christopher Baker and Riley Baker. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Lucille Eichorn, and one brother Kenneth Ulrich.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Interment will be at Heckman Cemetery in Spring Mills, at the convenience of the family. The family welcomes cards.
