Robert J. Donald, Jr., 70, of State College, passed away on Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at the Mount Nittany Medical Center in College Township.
Born in Queens Co., New York on February 12, 1940, he was a son of the late Robert J. and Anna (Pritz) Donald.
On October 30, 1965 in Valley Stream, N.Y., he was married to Janet L. Franke, who survives at home.
Mr. Donald was a Police Officer for the Nassau County Police Department, where he had served for 20 years. He then was a Transportation Coordinator for the State College Area School District for over 20 years and President of the Pupil Transportation Association of Pennsylvania.
He was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church in State College where he served as an usher. He also served as President of St. George Association, a fraternal organization for the Police Departments in New York. Mr. Donald always had an interest in volunteer fire services in both New York and Pennsylvania. He joined the Alpha Fire Department in 2002 where he was active as a Fire Police Officer and Captain of the Fire Police. He also was a Trustee for the State College Fireman�s Relief Association, and served many other offices in the fire department during his tenure.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Carole L. Donald (Thomas Hunt) of State College, Rachel A. Griel (Lester) of State College, and Elizabeth L. Visioli (Todd) of Annandale, VA; one sister, Marianne Essex (Stephen) of Bradenton, FL; and the special part of his life, his grandchildren, Nicholas and Jessica Griel, Ava Visioli, and a grandson due on Tuesday, who affectionately called him Mr. D.
Family will receive friends from 6-8 PM on Friday, December 17, 2010 at the Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Services, 1034 Benner Pike, State College. Memorial Services will be announced at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Robert's memory can be made to the Grace Lutheran Church Building Fund, 205 S. Garner St., State College, PA 16801.
