Robert P. Hoover, 83, of Red Lion entered into rest after a lengthy illness on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009, at York Hospital. Born in Pine Glen, on Nov. 30, 1925, he was the son of the late Clyde L. and Nora M. (Houdeshell) Hoover. On Oct. 25, 1947, he married Gloria R. (Renauld) Hoover, of Red Lion, who survives.

He was the former owner/operator of Hoover Sawmill Inc. on Mt. Pisgah Road in York. He retired from Caterpiller in 1987 after 18 years of service and is a member of their retirees. He was a 1942 graduate of Snow Shoe High School and attended one year at Juniata College. He was a member of Brogue Lions Club, Red Lion Grange #1781, New Bridgeville Fire Co., Susquehanna Senior Center, and a former member of the American Chestnut Society. Robert was a member of Shenberger's Chapel UM Church, and the Men's Group in the church, a former parsonage trustee and church trustee. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Marlyn K. Diehl and husband John, of Camp Hill; a son, Timothy Hoover and wife Terri, of King of Prussia; five grandchildren, Robert Diehl, Regina Diehl Smith, Andrew Hoover, Claire Hoover and Emily Hoover; two sisters, Ruth Hocker, Norma Jean Hoover; two brothers, Donald Hoover and Marvin Hoover and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Harold Hoover, Isabel Pluebell, Helen Yingling, Russell Hoover, Clyde Hoover, Willard Hoover, Gladys Sheffer.

Visitation will be held Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009, from 6-8 p.m., at Burg Funeral Home Inc., 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion and Monday Oct. 26, 2009, from 9-10 a.m. at St. Paul's (Craley) UM Church, 469 Abels Road, Wrightsville. Funeral service will be held Monday, Oct. 26, 2009, at 10 a.m. at the church with his pastor, Rev. Patricia C. Bollinger, officiating. Burial will be in Shenberger Chapel Cemetery.
