Russell Elwood Corl, 95, of State College, died Friday, August 17, 2012.

He was born March 22, 1917, in Ferguson Township, a son of the late Daniel Otis and Elsie Mae Crammer Corl.

On October 14, 1940, he married Pruella Edmonds who preceded him in death September 9, 1991.

Russell graduated from State College High School in 1936.

An Army Veteran of World War II, he served with the Service Battery 772nd Field Artillery Battalion earning the rank of Technician 4th Grade. During his service he earned a good conduct medal, and American Campaign Medal, a European, African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 4 Bronze Stars, and a World War II Victory Medal.

Mr. Corl retired after many years of service as a Stock Room Clerk at the former Cerro Metals near Bellefonte.

His memberships included St. Peters United Church of Christ at State College, the VFW Post 5825 at Pine Grove mills, and the American Legion Post 245 at State College. He was a life member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge 1600 at Boalsburg, and a member and past councilor of United Commercial Travelers.

Among the things he enjoyed most was spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, hunting, fishing, and camping.

Surviving are two daughters, Linda L. Freed and her companion Robert Fielder of Bellefonte and Donnis L. Mikowicz and her husband Mark of Aaronsburg, three grandchildren, Jeremy Corl and his wife Christine, Teresa McCarty and her husband Mark, and Melissa Freed; and three great grandchildren, Thomas and Shelby Corl and Colin McCarty.

Mr. Corl was the last of thirteen siblings.

Friends will be received from 6 – 9 p. m. Monday, August 20, 2012 and from 10 – 11 a. m. Tuesday, August 21; at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Service, 1034 Benner Pike, State College, PA. Funeral services follow at 11 a. m. at the funeral home with the Reverend Carl Campbell officiating. Entombment will be in the Garden Mausoleum at Centre County Memorial Park, 1032 Benner Pike, State College, PA. Military honors will be accorded.
