Shawn Albert Mowery, 26, Orlando, Fla., formerly of Huntingdon and State College, died Saturday, June 19, 2010, at the Altoona Trauma Center, from catastrophic injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident on Route 26, Huntingdon, that had occurred on June 17th. He was surrounded by family and friends at the time of his passing.
Born on Feb. 24, 1984, in State College, Shawn is the son of Dennis and Lori (Clemens) Mowery, of Huntingdon, Pa. Paternal grandparents are Jerry Mowery and the late James Albert Mowery, of Pleasant Gap. Maternal grandparents are Ray and Pat Clemens, of Newton Hamilton. Shawn attended State College High School, graduating in June of 2002. He was of the United Methodist faith.
Shawn worked at Garfield's in State College as a cook for many years until his passion for motorcycles led him to Orlando, Fla., to attend MMI, the Motorcycle Mechanics Institute. He would have graduated this year. At the time of the accident, Shawn was home on a summer break from school.
Shawn will be remembered as having had an incredible spirit and love for life. His friends affectionately called him "Monkey." He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, listening to music, playing his guitar, playing golf and especially making people laugh. Shawn had a smile that would light up the room and in his 26 years had touched the lives and hearts of everyone he met.
The funeral service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, June 24, 2010, at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, 61 East Shirley Street, Mount Union, with Rev. Fred Hickok officiating. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 from 7-9 p.m.; and on Thursday, from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.
