Vaughn “Brownie” Rider Jr. 76, of Pleasant Gap, died Wednesday January 18, 2017 at Centre Crest in Bellefonte.
He was born December 13, 1940 in Bellefonte, a son of the late Vaughn Rider Sr. and Marie Tressler Rider.
On July 2, 1962 he married Shirley Struble Rider who survives in Pleasant Gap.
Mr. Rider farmed much of his life; worked as a laborer at the Lime Companies in Pleasant Gap for 29 years; and worked as a butcher at Nolan’s Meats for 11 ½ years.
He was a life member of the Pleasant Gap Fire Company.
He especially enjoyed spending time with family, fishing and hunting.
Surviving Vaughn are three daughters, Kara Weaver of Bellefonte, Rose (Tom) Comly of Julian, and Tammy Hillard of Pleasant Gap; two sons Todd (Shelly) Rider of York and Clint (Deanna) Rider of Lititz; eleven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; three sisters, Elaine Lutz of Boonsboro, MD, Juanita Wolfe of rural Spring Mills, and Ruby (Dave) Hersh of Houserville; four brothers Edwin (Karen) Rider of Centre Hall, Randy (Mary) Rider of Madisonburg, Kevin (Jenny) Rider of rural Spring Mills, and Leslie (Sherry) Rider of Port Matilda.
Following his wishes there will be no public services.
