Walter James “Jim” Hochberg, 82, of State College, Pennsylvania died Monday, January 11, 2016 at Mount Nittany Medical Center.
Walter was born April 15, 1933 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania and was a son of the late Walter Hochberg and Florence (Strang) Hochberg.
On February 5, 1988 in State College he married Dollie Anna Neff, who survives at home.
Walter was a letterman as a punter and a quarterback for the Nittany Lions and graduated from Penn State University in 1956. He completed physical therapy course work at the University of Southern California. He worked in California and at the state hospital in Philipsburg, PA before joining the Penn State staff in 1959 as a physical therapist at the University Health Center and as an assistant trainer with the football team. In 1977, he became the Coordinator of Sports Medicine and the Head Trainer for the football team. He retired after 32 years of service from Penn State.
In addition to his wife, Walter was a father of three sons, Randall J. of Florida, Jeffrey S. of Iowa and the late Eric T. “Rusty” Hochberg, he is also survived by four grandsons.
Family will be receiving guests at 1:30 PM on Friday, January 15, 2016
at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Services, 1034 Benner Pike, State College. A memorial service will be begin at 2:00 PM. Private family interment in Centre County Memorial Park.
