Wava D. Brownson of Howard, PA passed away on January 11, 2017 at the age of 79. Born August 19, 1937 to the late Richard and Vivian Vonada in Jacksonville, PA, she is survived by her husband of 60 years, Willard “Buzz” D. Brownson, and her four children – David Brownson (wife Kimberly), Douglas Brownson (wife Laurie), Melinda Brownson, Lisa Skripek (husband Mark); nine grandchildren – Dawn, Brownson, Tina Brownson, Zachary Brownson, Gregory Brownson, Erica DeHaas Tull, Ryan DeHaas, Tyler Skripek, Chelsey Skripek, Cortney Skripek; and five great-grandchildren.
She was one of six siblings, and was predeceased by all but her youngest sister, Vicki Lynn Vonada.
Wava graduated valedictorian from Howard High School in 1956, the last graduating class from that school before the creation of the Bald Eagle Area School District.
On October 27, 1956 she married her high school sweetheart upon his discharge from the Army. Wava was active in the Howard United Church of Christ holding leadership and volunteer positions and was also a Girl Scout Leader.
She loved to travel and attended many Penn State football away games including the 1983 Sugar Bowl when Penn State won their first national championship. A favorite destination of her travels was the beach – any beach involving sand, the ocean, seafood and seashells.
