William "Bill" Howard Haas, 90 of Howard, passed away Thursday, December 16, 2010 at the Centre Crest Nursing Home in Bellefonte. He was born in Big Run, Pa. on May 20, 1920, the son of the late Edward H. Haas and Annie Ritzi Haas.

On December 12, 1941 he married Verda Louise Woomer Haas, in Winchester, Va., she survives at home.

Bill enlisted in the U.S. Army on February 17, 1941 and served with the Headquarters Company 172nd Infantry regiment 43rd Division in the Phillipines. Following his discharge on December 19, 1945 he had numerous occupations and 1948 he began his tenure with the Pennsylvania State University retiring in 1980, after 35 years from the Land and Water Resources Dept.

He was a member of the Main Street United Methodist Church in Howard and a member of the Howard Area Lions Club.

For 21 years, he enjoyed being a snow-bird in Vacation Village, Largo, Fl. He enjoyed cooking, gardening, watching baseball, reading, woodworking, playing shuffleboard games in Florida, and spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by two daughters; Bonnie and husband Doyle Bartley of Howard, Lisa and husband Robert Good of Hershey, three sons; Dennis and wife Deborah Haas of Frederick, Md., Paul of Mill Hall, and Wayne and wife Glenda of Howard, one sister; Mary Evelyn Haag of Rochester, N.Y., ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was receded in death by 5 sisters; Dorothy Haas, Ida Fry, Florence Brehm, Martha McHendrick and Almeda Steely and a brother Charles.
