William (Bill) Calvert Schultz, 84, of Bellefonte, died Thursday, March 21, 2013 at the Mount Nittany Medical Center in State College. Born May 5, 1928 in Snow Shoe, PA, Bill was the son of the late Paul Edward & Esther Katherine Rearick Schultz. On June 11, 1955, in Selinsgrove, he married Lois Christine Dauberman who survives at home.
Bill was a 1946 graduate from DuBois High School, and a 1954 graduate from Clarian University, with a BS in Science Education. His first teaching position was in Shanksville, PA where he met his future wife. They moved to Bellefonte where he taught life science in the middle school for 34 years before retiring in 1992.
He volunteered in the U.S. Army after high school graduation and served as a Sergeant during the occupation of Japan. He was recalled with the Reserves and spent two additional years at Fort Meade, Maryland.
Bill was actively involved in Trinity United Methodist Church, Boy Scouts of America in Bellefonte, Nittany Knights Barbershop Chorus, Bellefonte Borough Council, the Centre Community Hospital Board, Centre County Library Board, Historic Bellefonte, Inc., Bellefonte American Legion Post #33, and the Bellefonte Moose Club #206.
Bill had many interest. He loved to travel. On one of his many cruises, he learned the art of making boxes from paper, thus giving him the nick name, “the box man”. He enjoyed being with people and looked forward to family events.
Bill is survived by his wife; daughters, Chriss Schultz and her husband, Harvey Wall of Pleasant Gap, Cathy Lomartire and her husband, Jim of Zion; and son, W. Charles Schultz of Centre Hall. Also surviving are his five grandchildren; Rhea and Dmitry Wall, Andrew Langford, Alexander and Samantha Lomartire; three great-grandchildren and one sister Lorraine Monikowski of DuBois.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Helen Peterson and brother, Paul Schultz.
Visitation with family will on April 11, 2013 from 10-11am at the Trinity United Methodist Church on the corner of Spring and Howard Streets in Bellefonte. A memorial service will be at the church at 11am with Pastor Brian Vasey officiating. Burial will be private at Centre County Memorial Park, State College.
