Patricia Ann Moyer, 84, of State College, PA, died February 5, 2025 at home surrounded by family. Born on February 12, 1940, on her grandmother’s Hillside Dairy Farm in Williamsport, PA, she was the daughter or Robert and Helen Stahl. She married William Moyer, who survives at home, on June 2, 1962 (the day after his last final exam).
She is survived by three children, Steve Moyer (Deb) of Boalsburg, PA , Sue Barnes (Bill) of Greenville, SC and Judy Karaky (Issam) of State College, PA. Pat was the oldest of six children and is also survived by siblings, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Pat was a graduate of Williamsport High School and the Geisinger School of Nursing before earning her RN certification. While in nursing school in Danville, she met her future husband while he was a summer member of the Geisinger outside work crew. She began her nursing career at Saint Luke’s Hospital (Bethlehem, PA) during Bill’s senior year at Lehigh University, then moved to a position in Johnson City, NY. When she began having children, she became a stay-at-home mom. The long-term guidance and support she provided in this role was a major factor in the successful development of her children. Once her children were older, she returned to nursing in State College until her retirement.
She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and Penn State University Women’s Club. For years, Pat and Bill were dedicated fans of Penn State women’s basketball and volleyball and Pat, an avid reader, enjoyed book discussions with the Haymarket Book Group, which she helped start. She also was a member of the unofficial “Aerobics/Coffee Group”, an amazing group of ladies who attended the YMCA for aerobics then gathered socially for coffee and lunches.
Throughout her life, she enjoyed time with family, especially camping, which included a month-long trip out west with her husband and three teenagers in a manual transmission Volaré station wagon toting a canvas pop-up camper. An outdoor enthusiast and hiker, she and Bill spent time visiting as many national and state parks as possible. Bird-watching was a passion, so many hikes included pauses to locate the source of a warble she was determined to identify. Over summer months, she tended a beautiful butterfly garden and was adept at identifying those as well. Her indoor hobbies included quilting, sewing and reading as well as watching sporting events. Many hospital patients have been recipients of her beautiful lap quilts through the Comfort Keepers program and she also created small quilts for stuffed animals for Toys for Tots. She was a regular volunteer at Mt. Nittany Medical Center for years and enjoyed that role.
Pat and Bill enjoyed traveling together and created many amazing memories while visiting many states and parks in the US as well as Portugal, Costa Rica, Germany, Austria, Peru, the Galapagos, Greece, Russia, England, Switzerland, Panama, Kenya and Tanzania.
