Patrick E. Simmet of Petersburg, Pennsylvania, passed away on September 22, 2025 at the Hershey Cancer Center after a lengthy illness. He was born on October 10, 1962 in Bethesda, Maryland and grew up in State College, Pa.
He was a member of Our Lady of Victory Church in State College. Patrick was a graduate of the class of 1980 in State College. Upon graduation Patrick moved to Louisiana and Houston, Tx., working in the oil services industry. Patrick then served as a U.S. Merchant Marine Able Bodied Seaman and later with the U.S. Army 101st Airborne Division, serving in Panama, Persian Gulf, and Desert Storm Operations. He was an infantry squad leader and certified combat lifesaver, receiving five Army Achievement Awards. He was also a graduate of the Pennsylvania State Police Academy and worked as a state forest ranger with the Rothrock division of the state Bureau of Forestry, before serving as a Public Utility Commission Officer; the position from which he retired.
Patrick had a deep love for animals and nature and enjoyed spending time outdoors with his many pets. He loved to go hiking, especially with his rescue dog Duke. He loved to read and could be found relaxing with a book whenever he had spare moments of quiet time.
Patrick is survived by a daughter, Rebekah Simmet; a son, Jakob Simmet; an older brother, William (Bill) Simmet, and sister Suzanne (Suzy) Fye. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents William H. And Patricia H. Simmet, his younger brother Thomas (Tommy), and his niece, Ashley.
Funeral arrangements are being conducted by the Koch Funeral Home, with internment at Centre County Memorial Park. All services are private with no viewing.
