Samuel K. Owens, 69, of Linden Hall, passed away on Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at the Mount Nittany Medical Center. Born on August 22, 1952, in Bellefonte, he was the son of the late Jerry and Annie Margaret (Watts) Owens. His significant other of 26 years, Jennie Aber, survives at home.
Sam graduated from State College High School in 1971. After graduation, he enlisted with the United States Marine Corps, earning the rank of Corporal before his honorable discharge in 1983. He was a military policeman that started off as a basic MP, then a Marine NCO, into Inf. Patrolling, then MP Investigation, until he became staff NCO Academy Ext Crs. While enlisted, he earned his Expert Badge in M-16 Rifle, Good Conduct Medal 1st Award, Good Conduct Medal Period Commences (2nd Award), and four Meritorious Masts. Sam later showed and bred English Mastiffs.
Sam was a lifetime member of the Nittany Leathernecks, the VFW, the Marine Corps League, the Fraternal Order of Police, and the NRA. He was a collector of many items, including but not limited to coins, guns, knives, and swords. He loved the outdoors, hunting, taking mountain rides, and gardening. When Sam did something, he was all in. He loved the beach and collecting sea shells. To say he was a proud marine is an understatement. You could often hear him say, “Semper Fi, Do or Die” and that was his way of life. If you do something, do it entirely and to the best that you can.
Along with Jennie, Sam is survived by his son, Samuel K. “Kerry” Owens, II and his wife, Shaundra, of Centre Hall; grandchildren, Samuel K. Owens, III and Shiloh J. Owens; and one brother, Daniel Owens and his wife, Rosalie, of Centre Hall.
Along with his parents, Sam was preceded in death by his brother, Robert C. “Poe” Owens.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at the Boalsburg Cemetery on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, at 2pm with Pastor Dave Hersh officiating.
