Beloved father, son, brother and uncle, Scott Harold Ferguson, 61, of State College, PA, passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2024.
Born on October 15, 1962, in Stillwater, OK, Scott was the son of Frederick and Joelle Ferguson of State College, PA. In addition to his parents, Scott is survived by his beloved daughters: Laura (Derrick) Reese of Port Matilda, PA, and Emma Ferguson of Brooklyn, NY. Scott also leaves behind three grandchildren: Nolan, Lucy and Carson.
Scott was a brother to four siblings: Erin (Bob) Crow of Alexandria, VA, Stephen (Bev) Ferguson of Carson City, NV and Paula (Will) Walker of Saline, MI. He was preceded in death by his sister, Christine Thomson, and brother in law, John Thomson. Scott also leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Scott was a 1980 graduate of State College Area High School. Throughout his life Scott held several job positions, notably as a hydraulics specialist for Ford Motor Company in Ypsilanti, MI. He later worked as a physical therapy assistant at Saline Evangelical Nursing Home, after earning his degree in physical therapy from Washtenaw Community College in Ann Arbor, MI.
In 1992, Scott married Susan Hopkins of Bellefonte, PA. Together, they raised their children in Bellefonte, PA, before moving to Saline, MI. Scott’s greatest joys came from watching his daughters grow into amazing young women, and celebrating the arrival of his adorable grandchildren.
Known for his sense of humor and kind spirit, Scott always took an interest in the lives of others. He loved travel, sports, reading and music. Some of Scott’s fondest memories were of vacations with his family to Ludington, MI along the coast of Lake Michigan, as well as annual family visits to relatives in Wisconsin.
An avid reader, Scott stayed informed about the latest news, current events and trivia. He was by far the winningest player of Trivial Pursuit in the family.
Scott’s passion for sports knew no bounds. He was a super fan of all Penn State sports, Green Bay Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers football, as well as Pittsburgh Pirates baseball. During the sports finals season, Scott was the organizer (aka “The Commish”) of the Ferguson family pools and brackets, his way of keeping family members connected across the many miles.
We miss you Scott, you left us way too soon. Your memory, love and laughter will remain forever in our hearts.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Centre Volunteers in Medicine (CVIM), 2026 Sandy Dr, State College, PA 16803, or to a charity of your choice.
