Vickie Confer Van Dop, a resident at Elmcroft in State College, died on January 2, 2021, at Mount Nittany Medical Center after succumbing to complications of the Covid-19 virus. She was 70. Born on May 14, 1950 in Danville, PA, she was the first daughter of Dale and Jeannie (Breon) Confer, and siblings Courtney and Lana, followed.  The family lived in Rebersburg, where she used to like to ride her pony Smoky and play with her cousins who lived next door.

Vickie graduated from Penns Valley High School in 1968 and from the Pennsylvania State University in 1972. She met her husband Cornelius Van Dop at PSU and they were married shortly after graduation. The newlyweds then headed to Madison, WI where Neil pursued graduate school and Vickie worked in the university library. Their next move was to Brookline, MA for his work at Children’s Hospital, then on to San Francisco and Los Angeles, on the academic track.

Vickie and Neil enjoyed traveling in Thailand, New Zealand, and Europe and especially loved sailing in San Francisco Bay and the Caribbean Islands. Predeceased by her husband, Vickie returned to State College and worked at Penn State as a librarian. She retired from that post in 2015 but continued with her lifelong love of books and reading.

Vickie is survived by her two siblings, Courtney R. Confer and Lana J. Confer.
