Penn State Football Set for Two Key Behind-the-Scenes Hires

Penn State football is making two new, behind-the-scenes hires, a spokesperson confirmed to on Friday afternoon. The hires were first reported by Lions247.

The first: James Franklin is adding longtime NFL offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains to the staff as an offensive analyst. Loggains most recently spent the last two seasons as the offensive coordinator of the New York Jets and had been in the league in some capacity since 2005

Loggains effectively replaces new tight ends coach Ty Howle, who held the same role as an analyst last season prior to being promoted. Howle replaced his predecessor, Tyler Bowen, who moved to the NFL as tight ends coach with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Penn State also confirmed the return of former recruiting staffer Kenny Sanders who was in a similar role at Oregon in 2019. Sanders had previously spent five years as Penn State’s assistant director of player personnel and had been a high visible figure within Penn State’s recruiting efforts.

Sanders was a key piece of Penn State’s recruiting success over the past several seasons and while he may not hold a high profile role in front of the camera, Sanders return would mark a key offseason victory for Franklin and his staff.
