Penn State men’s basketball added two all-conference players from the transfer portal on Thursday picking up the services of Bucknell guard Andrew Funk and Drexel guard Camren Wynter. Both players announced their commitments Thursday afternoon on Twitter.

Following a four-year career at Bucknell, Funk comes to Penn State after posting a career-high 17.8 points per game last year. He was named second-team All-Patriot League as a result and was the league’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year. A 6-foot-5, 188-pound combo guard, Funk has averaged 11.2 points per game for his career.

Wynter heads to State College after a four-year career at Drexel, where he was a solid scorer with 15.8 points per game last season and great passer with 577 career assists — the third most in program history. Wynter had shot just north of 40% from beyond the arc during his career but that dipped to 27% in 2021-22. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound guard was a first-team All-CAA selection the past two seasons and was the CAA Tournament’s Most Outstanding Player in 2021.

Nittany Lion coach Micah Shrewsberry noted following the season that Penn State would likely look to pick up a name or two out of the portal. Shrewsberry and his staff will welcome a freshman class of five players this summer after losing a handful of players to graduation or transfer putting a premium on veteran players.

Guards Myles Dread and Jalen Pickett are both set to return this upcoming year while guard Sam Sessoms recently entered the transfer portal. Forward/guard Seth Lundy has not announced his intentions to return but is expected to return to State College in 2022-23.

Funk and Wynter will join Penn State’s aforementioned five-man freshman class on campus sometime this offseason.
