Talent, depth return to Bellefonte gymnastics

BELLEFONTE — The Bellefonte gymnastic team is heading into the 2019-20 season with some pretty high expectations.

After all, the team didn’t lose any seniors to graduation from last year’s squad, and four letter winners return from a team that put together a 5-3 season.

The returning letter winners include Evan McMullen, Sarah Conner, Grace Sherman and Ahleah Krout. Wellar also said fans of Bellefonte gymnastics should also pay attention to newcomers Emma Matsko and Natalie Mattern.

Despite the talent and depth, Wellar said the team is still weak in one event.

“Bars is a very difficult event to learn new skills,” She said. “Each year we only have a few kids that excel on the uneven bars.”

Wellar said the team expects a great season and hopes to be injury free. Wellar said she expects the team to work hard individually and as a team, to achieve their goals.

Special dates on the Bellefonte gymnastics calendar include Jan. 28, which is a fundraiser night at Bellefonte Wok; and Senior Night is tentatively scheduled for Jan. 15 at Bellefonte Middle School.
