2 Retail Stores Close State College Area Locations, Another Closing Soon

no description

Two national retail chains have closed their State College area stores, while another will close soon.

Victoria’s Secret’s Nittany Mall store remained closed when the mall reopened at the end of May. Since then its windows have been covered over and the signage removed from its storefront.

L Brands, the lingerie and clothing retailer’s parent company, announced in late May that it planned to close 250 stores in the United States and Canada. It’s at least the sixth business to leave the Nittany Mall this year. Macy’s and Express closed earlier this year and Kay Jewelers closed as of the end of May. Happy Wraps moved its restaurant from the mall to downtown Bellefonte and Emporium Market moved to downtown State College.

In Patton Township, meanwhile, two storefronts in the Trader Joe’s Plaza, will be vacant.

Gap Factory Store has already closed. All signage has been removed from the store and it is now for lease through Keystone Commercial Real Estate, according to signs in the building’s windows.

Gap Inc. reported in early June a quarterly loss of nearly $1 billion after closing its stores during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Nearby in the same plaza, Pier 1 Imports is currently having a going-out-of-business sale.

Pier 1, a home goods and furnishings retailer filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection earlier this year and announced in May that it would be closing all 540 of its stores.
