Eicher says the fair has become “more commercialized and modernized,” with a greater focus on commercial vendors, but some things never change. “I think most everyone would say the fair is as wonderful as its ever been,” Eicher says. “Family is the glue that holds this all together.”

The concept is simple: you hang the hexagonal hive on your wall, run the connecting tube out the nearest window if you choose to hang it indoors, and let nature take its course. (Don’t worry, the bees are behind a pane of glass, so they won’t be buzzing around your living room.)
