The Gallery Shop to feature wood and glass collaborations through May

LEMONT — The Gallery Shop in Lemont will feature two local artists through May, both set to showcase their individual work as well coming together to create collaborative art of wood and glass.

Steve Strouse, known for his Shaker-style boxes as well as live edge clocks and other handcrafted pieces is not your ordinary craftsman, taking salvaged wood from the region to make his pieces. This year he has made his artwork from the University Park elm trees that were lost during the 1995 and 1996 winter storms.

Kim Filkins will showcase her fused glass work, and both artists have worked together to create a handful of new pieces combining their artistry.

Strouse will be conducting a wood-bending demo on Saturday, May 18. He will demonstrate the process in which he bends wood to form the sides of his traditional Shaker-style boxes.

The Gallery Shop, 824 Pike Street, is a group of 50 local artists who live and work in Central Pennsylvania and has been open for the last 31 years. Each artist brings a unique set of skills and provides the shop with a variety of art.
The shop is open 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.
