The Centre Area Transportation Authority will hold a public hearing this month for a proposal to eliminate the XB bus route serving Bellefonte.
CATA is considering removing the route because of “extremely low ridership, frequency” and the growing use of the CATA Go microtransit service, according to a news release. CATA Go would continue serving the Bellefonte area.
If approved, the change would go into effect Aug. 17.
The XB Route currently operates four inbound trips (two morning and two afternoon) from Bellefonte to State College and three outbound trips (one morning and two afternoon) from State College to Bellefonte, Monday through Friday. No XB service is offered on Saturday and Sunday. CATA Go’s Bellefonte/Pleasant Gap service operates 6 a.m. to 11 p.m . Monday through Friday and 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday.
The public hearing to gather comment on the proposed XB route elimination will be held in an open-house format from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on June 28 at the Bellefonte Borough Building, 236 W. Lamb St.
Public comment also can be submitted by emailing comments@catabus.com or contacting CATA’s Customer Service Center at (814) 238-2282 during normal business hours. Comments will be accepted through noon on June 29.
