A cafe located inside State College Regional Airport is closing after about eight months in business.

Up Up and Away Cafe will permanently close on Dec. 15, according to a post its Facebook page. Before closing, it will have limited hours of 5 a.m. to noon through Dec. 8 and again on Dec. 10 (closed Dec. 9). Hours for the final week will 5 a.m. to noon and 2 to 5 p.m. Dec. 11-14.

The decision to close “did not come lightly,” according to the cafe.

“We have been brainstorming ways to stay and make it work,” the post stated. “The added pressure of all of us squeezing our budgets during this time of year paired with the lack of flights going out daily and limited cities to fly to were no match for a small business like ours.”

Up Up and Away Cafe is operated by Bees Knees Coffee owner Bromlyn Fitzgerald, “so we are pivoting our whole staff and operation back” to Bees Knees’ location at 114 E. College Ave. in Pleasant Gap, according to the post.

Bees Knees Coffee’s Pleasant Gap location will offer takeout service for drinks, baked goods and breakfast sandwiches 7-11 a.m. Monday through Friday and 8-11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. Canned drinks continue to be available for pickup or delivery on Wednesdays.

Up Up and Away Cafe has served breakfast and lunch sandwiches, salads, baked goods and an assortment of Bees Knees’ hot and cold coffee and tea drinks since opening at the airport in April.

Bees Knees launched in 2020 with its mobile trailer, delivery service and the location in Pleasant Gap. The Pleasant Gap location has served as a storage and prep space while the airport cafe has been in operation.

This story was updated to reflect a change to the final days and hours for Up Up and Away Cafe.
