A restaurant located inside Bellefonte’s Gamble Mill has closed after about four years in business.

Creekside at the Gamble Mill’s website says it is “Closed Out of Business” and a sign on its door says “Creekside is permanently closed for business.”

An on-site liquidation auction of equipment and other items is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on Thursday at the restaurant inside the 160 Dunlop Street building, according to True Blue Auctions.

Creekside owner and chef Michael Marx and a Gamble Mill co-owner did not respond to messages seeking comment on Monday.

It is the second business to leave the Gamble Mill in the past month. Smith + Front closed its retail shop there at the end of August and is reopening on Saturday at 126 S. Allegheny St. in downtown Bellefonte.

The Gamble Mill’s other businesses — The Republic cocktail bar and The Speakeasy — as well as its inn and suites appear to remain open.

All of the businesses opened in 2021 after brothers Chris and Jonathan Virgilio purchased and renovated the historic property that had sat empty for five years.

Creekside carried on the tradition of finer dining at the Gamble Mill. Led by longtime restaurant and catering operator Marx, it offered an ever-changing menu of American and global cuisine utilizing locally-sourced products.
