Dunkin’ and Jimmy John’s to Open in Penn State Business Building

Two national chains will offer new dining options in a busy Penn State academic building.

Dunkin’ and Jimmy John’s will open this fall in the café space of the Business Building near the corner of East Park Avenue and Shortlidge Road on the University Park campus, Penn State announced on Monday.

“From the start, we wanted this to be a decision made with our community, not just for it, and the response to the vendor presentations was fantastic,” Corey Phelps, dean of the Smeal College of Business. said in a statement. “The café is about so much more than coffee or lunch. It’s one of those places where our community really comes together. I can’t wait to see this space come back to life.”

An opening date and operating hours are to be announced. The eateries will be open to the public and will also accept Penn State meal plan points and LionCash.

For Jimmy John’s, it is the second new location in the State College area after a two-year absence in the market. The sandwich shop chain recently signed a lease for a store at 1718 S. Atherton St. in the Creekside Plaza.

Dunkin’, meanwhile, has seven locations in Centre County, including six in the State College area.

They replace Saxby’s, which closed in the spring after more than seven years in the building. The coffee shop offering breakfast and lunch options opened in 2018 as an experiential learning cafe intended to give students hands-on managerial and operational experience.
