A Penn State alum’s chain of fast-casual restaurants specializing in customizable stir-fry, salads and dessert bowls is ready to open its downtown State College location.

Honeygrow will hold a grand opening at 10 a.m. Monday at 160 E. Beaver Ave., on the ground floor of the Pugh Centre. The event will begin with a ribbon cutting and will include a prize wheel, other giveaways throughout the day and free T-shirts while supplies last.

Based in Philadelphia and with nearly 60 locations in eight states, Honeygrow offers a menu of made-to-order stir-fries and salads, as well as “honeybars,” dessert cups filled with a choice of fresh fruit, a variety of sweet toppings and drizzled with one of three honeys. The fresh-ingredient menu also offers vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options.

Founder and CEO Justin Rosenberg, a 2004 graduate of Penn State’s College of the Liberal Arts, opened the first Honeygrow in 2012.

“Opening in State College is a full-circle moment for me,” Rosenberg said earlier this year. “My time at Penn State was a major and influential part of my life, and I’m incredibly excited to bring our brand back to a place that means so much to me. We’re proud to serve this community with food that’s fresh, wholesome and actually tastes really good.”

Honeygrow — a portmanteau of “honest eating” and “growing local” — bills itself as a “go-to destination for fresh, healthy meals that can be personalized to fit any dietary preference.”

Pre-designed stir-fries include spicy garlic, serrano chili, garlic butter shrimp and red curry, among others, while salads feature the likes of steakhouse chopped, loaded Greek, kale chicken and classic shrimp Caesar, Cobb and cold sesame noodle. Honeybars range from key lime cheesecake and fruit and granola to brownie crumble and apple pie.

Honeygrow’s State College location will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

The chain also offers catering, fundraisers and a rewards program.
