IHOP is permanently closing its State College restaurant after nearly 12 years in business.

The restaurant chain’s location at 1661 S. Atherton St. is scheduled to end dining room service at 8 p.m. Monday and will be open for to-go orders only for its final day of business on Tuesday.

IHOP’s corporate communications department did not respond to a request for comment.

Long known for its pancakes and serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, IHOP opened its State College restaurant in January 2014 at the corner of South Atherton Street and East Branch Road.

The site was previously home to Perkins, which closed its location there in 2012 after 17 years and later reopened in 2014 at 525 Benner Pike. Prior to Perkins, the South Atherton Street location was an Elby’s restaurant
