A Penns Valley art gallery is shutting its doors in October after more than 12 years in business.
The Green Drake Gallery and Arts Center in Millheim will close on Oct. 14, managing partner Kurt Grotz wrote in a Facebook post.
“It has been my privilege to take over where Karl Leitzel left off and continue this amazing endeavor for the past three years,” Grotz wrote. “In short there are many reasons but in the end it is just time to retire and focus on my house and health issues.”
The shop at 101-B W. Main St. is holding a closing sale through Sunday. Hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.
Remaining inventory will be sold at the Dutch Fall Festival in Aaronsburg, Oct. 7-8.
The Green Drake opened its doors in April 2011 at the 130-year-old building in downtown Millheim, and since then has been a hub for the Penns Valley art community. In addition to serving as a gallery to showcase and sell artists’ work, it has been home to concerts, poetry nights, art and music classes, special exhibitions and studio spaces.
“We appreciate all your support over the years and hope to see you sometime over the coming weeks,” Grotz wrote.
