A State College Subway restaurant has permanently closed after more than 36 years in business.

The sandwich chain’s location in O’Brien Place at 300 S. Pugh St. shut down on Monday, according to a sign posted on its door.

The reason for its closure is currently unclear. Gumby’s Pizza, also formerly located in O’Brien Place, closed in January.

“Thank you to all of our loyal customers,” the sign read. “Please visit our other locations on Burrowes St. & E. College Ave.”

Subway’s other downtown State College restaurants are located at 456 E. College Ave. and 100 S. Burrowes St. It also has locations at 283 Northland Center, 2790 W. College Ave., 1700 S. Atherton St. and inside both State College-area Walmarts and Pegula Ice Arena.
