Downtown State College community arts space 3 Dots is preparing to expand its entertainment offerings to a much younger demographic.

From 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, 3 Dots will host a family-friendly “baby rave” dance party aimed at young children and their families. The event will help smaller party-goers “dance their diapers off in a secure environment,” according to a news release from the nonprofit.

The baby rave will feature colorful lights and interactive elements, as well as several dance floors reserved for “VICs,” or Very Important Crawlers, according to the release. Children and parents alike are invited to dance along to an all-vinyl set of disco and old-school hits. Additionally, the baby rave will offer “mocktails” and other non-alcoholic drinks, including coffee, through the SoBar mobile bar.

While kids can dance for free, adult admission for the baby rave will cost $10.

The upcoming event is made possible through a partnership with Gorinto Productions, a State College-based group that regularly hosts monthly dance parties at 3 Dots. Director Corey Elbin, better known as DJ Elbow Knee Knee when he performs, says the rave is shaping up to be an event that the entire community can enjoy.

“As an avid crate-digger, I’m convinced that enjoying great dance music isn’t affected by your age,” Elbin said in a statement. “The opportunity to play music that parents, friends and kids of all ages can dance to is such a satisfying vision to bring to life.”

Erica Quinn, 3 Dots’ executive director, said the upcoming baby rave represents yet another opportunity to build community relationships and connect with others through art.

“As an organization, we’re always in search of new ways to share the arts with all in our community,” she said. “The event is as much for the adults as it is for the kids — for caregivers of young children to find new ways to connect and build community is critical. This is one of the great powers of the arts.”

Founded in 2019 and located at 137 E. Beaver Ave. in State College, 3 Dot works to strengthen community ties by promoting local arts and offering public spaces for civic engagement. For more information, visit the nonprofit’s website or browse its upcoming events calendar.
