Spring in Boalsburg has a way of pulling people outside. Zion Lutheran Church is leaning into that this year with a new free outdoor concert series on the lawn at 305 N. Church St. in Boalsburg, across from the church, open to anyone who wants to attend.
Kicking off the series is Rock Hill Revival from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 17. The local trio plays a mix of classic and contemporary rock, country, blues. and a few jazz standards. Bring a chair or a blanket, find a spot on the lawn and settle in.
On June 14, from 4 to 6 p.m., The Tussey Mountain Moonshiners — a string ensemble well known around the area — will bring bluegrass, Americana and enough humor to keep things lively.
Zion Lutheran Church has been a central part of the village neighborhood for more than 200 years. Music on the Lawn is part of the church’s Grounded in Boalsburg initiative, a broader effort that looks for ways to bring people together in town.
Last October, that meant Trunk or Treat. December brought a Christmas Carol Sing. This spring, it meant a community Bike Safety event with Bike Roost and an Eggstravaganza for families.
The lawn at Zion has always been part of the neighborhood. The new outdoor concerts are a way of making use of it.
