STATE COLLEGE — The Centre Area Transportation Authority has announced through a press release that Miles Turpin, of Oceanside, Calif., has been named its director of transportation.
Turpin is responsible for directing and managing all activities in CATA’s transportation department, including fixed-route bus transportation, bus and facility maintenance and the management of various capital projects. He directs the day-to-day operational oversight for the division, collaborating with staff to develop and implement policies, procedures and practices that are focused on safety, efficiency and customer service.
Turpin’s 26 years in the transit industry include assignments with transit management company, First Transit Inc., where he served in various senior management capacities with Orange County Transportation Authority in Orange, Calif.; Breeze Fixed-Route Operation in Oceanside, Calif.; and, the Regional Transportation District in Denver, Colo. Prior to joining First Transit Inc., Turpin worked for Gray Line/Coach America as manager of airport and charter operations in Las Vegas, Nev., and had served in various capacities for Southwest Airlines.
